Escape to La Residencia More Easily than Ever
United Airlines has announced direct flights from the US to Palma de Mallorca, making it easier than ever to get to a jewel in the incredible Belmond hotel collection: La Residencia in charming Deià.

The news that United Airlines has added Palma de Mallorca to their direct flights list has us over the moon because it will make it easier than ever for Poe Travel clients to visit La Residencia, a Belmond Hotel. United will begin operating its direct service from Newark to Palma (about a 45-minute drive from La Residencia) three times per week beginning in June 2022.

La Residencia, A Belmond Hotel
Set between the Tramuntana Mountains and the Mediterranean Sea, La Residencia’s twin manor houses dating from the 16th and 17th century and its award-winning spa sit in lush gardens among olive and citrus groves on the edge of the artists’ village of Deià. Art abounds in every corner of the hotel, which hosts over 750 works from local painters on its walls and original Miró masterpieces. Enjoy mountain treks in the company of the resident donkeys, relax by the pool, explore the island on a set of curated experiences, or feast over a Mallorcan dinner at El Olivo.
The hotel features 71 rooms and suites and one private villa, all decorated with an air of the local Mallorcan culture and with a focus on art. Since the rooms are located across four different buildings, there are many types of views to be had, from pool views to mountain views to garden views.
When Breana stayed, she fell in love with the Tower Suite, built in the oldest part of the hotel, a 14th-century tower in Son Canals. The tower was probably a lookout post in the event of pirate invasions and is thought to have been built by Cistercian monks before the two manor houses were ever constructed. Today, it is a private sanctuary set over three floors. With entry on the ground level, wind your way up a narrow staircase to the bedroom and spacious marble bath on the middle story. On the top level, you’ll find a living area with phenomenal views which leads out to a private terrace, the perfect place to enjoy the Mallorcan sunshine and views of the surrounding mountains.
Wining & Dining
Despite being a small village, Deià has no shortage of fabulous dining options, which means it is even more of a big deal that La Residencia’s El Olivo is considered one of the best in the area. Housed in a 17th-century olive mill, this fine dining option features a mouthwatering Mediterranean menu in one of the island’s most beautiful settings. The menu changes throughout the year, but if octopus (pulpo in Spanish) is on the menu, Breana says you MUST have it.
Along with their main restaurant, you’ll also find Café Miró, an art lover’s haven open for both hot and cold drinks along afternoon tea, cocktails, and tasty specialties such as tapas and paella. Enjoy piano music here each evening. By the pool, you’ll find both the Pool Restaurant, perfect for a bit of lunch, and the Son Foy, for a buffet breakfast overlooking the pool.

While you should definitely spend a good bit of time sampling all of the fabulous fare on offer at La Residencia, it’s also important that you venture out and explore the culinary delights of Deià. The concierge at the hotel will have all the best recommendations for you, but Deià is a seafood lover’s paradise. It’s certainly not limited to fresh fish, though; you can also find Pan Asian fare and homemade Italian delights.
Breana’s tummy is still set rumbling by the squid ink pasta from Xelini, the seafood at Ca’s Patro March (which overlooks stunning waters of Cala de Deià, accessed either by taxi or by a downhill mountain path), and paella and sangria at Restaurante Sa Vinya.
What to Do in Deià
La Residencia affords guests a wonderful chance to be as relaxed or as active as they'd like. From taking mountain hikes and visiting the hotel’s resident donkeys to taking an art lesson to boat or mountain bike trips, there is plenty to do, all in the warm Mallorcan sunshine.
On the flip side, relaxation is a major benefit to a stay at La Residencia. Relax by one of the two pools or indulge in a massage at the spa. Breana particularly recommends the Cocktail Hour massage treatment for couples. This relaxing rendezvous is enjoyed on the terrace with a friend or partner while you sip your favorite cocktail and admire the breathtaking mountain views.
