Tucked away in an idyllic corner of Connecticut, Winvian Farm is only two hours away from the hustle and bustle of cities like New York and Boston, but it will feel as though you’ve completely escaped. Listed as one of the most romantic getaways by Conde Nast Traveler, it’s definitely set us dreaming about a getaway.

Comprised of 18 cottages and one master suite, all designed by 15 different architects, no two accommodations are the same, just as no two stays are the same. Ever dreamt of living amongst the trees? The Treehouse is the cottage for you. What about climbing library ladders and sleeping surrounded by books? Reserve The Library. Each cottage is specifically designed to make guests linger. You are encouraged to open every cupboard, have a look at every nook and cranny, and truly explore your surroundings. You’ll find something new and surprising at every turn, such is the attention to detail in these lovely little cottages.

No matter which dreamy accommodation you choose, you’re sure to enjoy the 113 acres of nature surrounding you as you hike, bike, horseback ride, or snowshoe your way around the stunning grounds. Surrounding the already expansive grounds is the White Memorial Foundation, an additional 4,000 acres where you can truly get active (though always at your own pace!), connecting with nature no matter the season. The summers are fair and perfect for exploring. Fall is of course the season New England is most famed for, and you won’t be disappointed as you kick up the leaves here, wrapped in a cozy scarf and sipping on something pumpkin flavored. The snow in this area during the winter is absolutely pristine, and everything looks like a postcard. In the spring, you can literally wake up and smell the roses. You might think exploring the natural surroundings of this gorgeous property would only be reserved for summer or fall, but you’d be wrong. There is something for everyone in each season.

For relaxation, head to the spa where you’ll be pampered with a capital P. You won’t find a white coat in sight, and you will never be rushed in the Winvian Spa. Stretch yourself (gently!) with a yoga master, or perhaps just rest in the sunlight sauna. There are two treatment rooms for couples, both of which feature wood-burning fireplaces for peak coziness. With 5,000 square feet of space and six treatment rooms, there will always be plenty of room for you to relax. We particularly love the relaxation lounge, which looks out over the gardens and reflecting pools. Serene!

The cuisine is healthy but delectable fare by Executive Chef Chris Eddy and his team, always using seasonal New England ingredients to take you on a gastronomic journey. The aim is to create unhurried repasts that satisfy all senses, and the delicious meals are paired with outstanding and even eclectic wines from all over the world, which is perhaps a little surprising at a remote destination such as this one.

On the property itself, you’ll find plenty to do that is totally complimentary to guests, such as swimming in the pool, putting on a pair of muck boots and some wet weather gear to enjoy a hike no matter the weather, nature walks, a playground room for the kiddies, a fitness area, concierge services, snowshoes, and a wonderful games room featuring a salon-sized pool table, table top shuffleboard, foosball table, croquet, and badminton.

Of course, we can also organize plenty of offsite activities for you as well, should you wish to journey beyond the bounds of this enchanting little hideaway. Enjoy a private horseback riding lesson in the local area, or if you’re already experienced, a longer trek astride your equine companion. Explore Bantam Lake, Connecticut’s largest natural lake, from a canoe or kayak (the absolute best way!), or perhaps head to the Housatonic River for a spot of fly-fishing or whitewater rafting. Get your adrenaline fix at the nearby Skip Barber Racing School, or get a once-in-a-lifetime panoramic view of the Litchfield Hills from a hot air balloon. Speaking of Litchfield, it’s a destination in and of itself, with year-round local events, theatre, arts, and antiques.

It’s time to escape the noise around us all and head to somewhere a little quieter. Don’t mind if we do!
