As a company owned and run by women, we place a lot of value on incredible experiences for female travelers. This is why we were thrilled to learn that our friends at Natural Habitat Adventures—experts in nature travel in some of the world’s wildest areas—have introduced a brand-new travel concept: Women’s Journeys

Natural Habitat Adventures is always fabulous for small-group travels into the wilderness, whether you’re looking for a women-only journey or not. However, we love this concept because adventure and outdoorsy travel tends to be a male-dominated sector of the travel world, even today, and we think the idea of Women’s Journeys makes these remote destinations more accessible and less intimidating for intrepid women travelers

Women’s Journeys with Nat Hab

These special departures are designed to allow you to relax and be yourself, embrace new experiences, and learn from outstanding women naturalist expedition leaders. Visit local communities to witness the vital roles women play in conservation and hear about women researchers and explorers.

Relish intimate wildlife encounters as you learn about the matriarchs of the animal kingdom. Discover the intuition of elephants, the tenderness of mother belugas, and the noble fierceness of female wolves. Nurture your sense of wonder as nature empowers you to be your most radiant and authentic self.

With 18 different itineraries in destinations around the world—ranging from discovering the Northern Lights in the Arctic to chasing monarch butterflies in Central Mexico to visiting postcard perfect Cotswolds villages to going Down Under with women researchers in Australia (just to name a few!)—you truly can discover every corner of the world with the support and empowerment that comes with being surrounded by your fellow woman.

The World’s Most Coveted Small-Group Polar Bear Expedition
6-7 days*, October-November, limited to 16 travelers

As we mentioned, there are currently 18 Women’s Journey itineraries, with a wide range of destinations worldwide. Three of these itineraries focus on Churchill, Canada, in the Arctic. This destination offers the elusive Northern Lights in the winter months, belugas and bears in the summer, and the King of the Arctic—polar bears—in the autumn.

Each of these itineraries provides a unique and memorable experience, but let’s take a closer look at those sought-after autumn months when polar bears roam the land.

*Note that activities will vary based on the 6- or 7-day itinerary options.

Day 1
Winnipeg, Manitoba

Your Churchill polar bear tour begins in Winnipeg, once a center of fur trade and a Canadian Pacific Railway boomtown and now a major cultural and commercial center on the eastern edge of the vast Canadian prairie. Overnight at the historic Fort Garry Hotel, grande dame of Winnipeg hospitality, and gather with your expedition leader for a welcome dinner. Visit the gear room to borrow a heavy parka and winter boots to use during your time on the tundra

Day 2
Winnipeg/Private Chartered Flight to Churchill

Transfer to the airport to fly by chartered plane to Churchill. This hospitable frontier town, originally a fur trading post, is your base for adventure. Head to the tundra for your first glimpse of the bears, although you may even see them from the bus as you leave the airport, before boarding your Polar Rover. Enjoy an evening presentation on polar bears and the northern environment by your professional naturalist staff.

Days 3 & 4
Polar Bear Viewing

Custom-built Polar Rovers are your mobile means for spending time among the bears. Though they can accommodate more than 30 passengers, Nat Hab takes a maximum of 16, ensuring everyone has a window seat and plenty of space to move about. Your expedition leaders know the best places to observe the polar bears who congregate here each fall as they wait for Hudson Bay to freeze, signaling the start of the winter seal-hunting season.

As you watch them interact, you’ll be delighted by their antics and rugged beauty. You may see mothers with cubs, young males play-fighting, or a lone bear ambling over the silent tundra, with your expedition leader there to interpret all you observe, explaining the bears’ behavior and how they thrive in such a harsh environment. In the evenings, gather for dinner and presentations on wildlife and local cultures.

Day 5
Exploring Churchill/Evening on the Tundra

Tour historic Churchill today, then head out to the tundra for evening bear viewing and dinner aboard the Polar Rover. During the day, follow the coastal road on a drive to Cape Merry, often spying Arctic foxes and Arctic hares. If the skies are clear, your nighttime tundra excursion might reveal one of nature’s most exhilarating experiences: the Northern Lights.

Day 6
Churchill Dog Sledding/Private Chartered Flight to Winnipeg

Your flight to Winnipeg departs mid-to-late afternoon, offering as much time as possible for exploring Churchill today, with the highlight being an authentic dog sled ride. Meet a local musher and his team, spending time with the lively and affectionate dogs before taking turns riding behind them on an exhilarating trot through the boreal forest. Time permitting, pick up some locally made handicrafts or take an optional helicopter tour over the tundra before departing. Enjoy a farewell lunch together before flying back to Winnipeg, where a final reception concludes your adventure.

Day 7
Return Home

After one last breakfast, you’ll begin your return journey home, probably already plotting when you can sneak away on another incredible Women’s Journey.
