Fans of slow travel no doubt already know all about Belmond’s portfolio of incredible trains and cruises. From the legendary Venice Simplon-Orient-Express to the Peruvian Andean Explorer to the Royal Scotsman (and more!), Belmond’s trains are nothing short of iconic.
This is why we are THRILLED to bring you news of a brand-new offering: The Britannic Explorer, a Belmond Train in England and Wales. This is the region’s first ever luxury sleeper train, and with itineraries exploring Cornwall, the Lake District, and Wales, this is just the ticket for exploring some of those farther-flung, harder-to-reach areas in the UK. This exciting new train will take to the rails in July 2025.
The Experience: Onboard & Off
The Britannic Explorer will depart from London on three-night itineraries. Trips to the Lake District and Cornwall will run from Friday to Monday, with trips to Wales running from Monday to Thursday, allowing for the easy combination of two regions.
Each of the three evocative routes will take you through spectacular natural landscapes. By day, off-train guided excursions showcase the rich cultural tapestry, beauty, and history of each destination. Discover the essence of Britain, gaining unparalleled perspective and exclusive access to some of the nation’s hidden gems. By night, unwind and mingle in the train’s botanically inspired Bar, the social heart of this convivial train.
As you'd expect from Belmond, fine dining experiences will abound onboard the Britannic Explorer. At the helm is renowned chef Simon Rogan, celebrated for his innovative approach at his restaurants, which collectively hold eight Michelin stars and two Michelin Green stars worldwide. Rogan is a visionary leader in the farm-to-fork movement, so his menus celebrate seasonal, sustainable ingredients sourced locally to showcase the richness of Britain’s diverse regions. The Bar, meanwhile, is inspired by Victorian apothecaries!
An on-board wellness suite provides therapies designed to relax and revive while the world goes by.
Charming By Design
London-based studio, Albion Nord, has created serenely elegant interiors with an unmistakable British charm, distinct to the train. Each of the Britannic Explorer’s 18 cabins couple sophistication with comfort. The three Grand Suites and 15 Suites have been carefully crafted in Britain, designed to make the experience of the journey as extraordinary as the destination. Inspired by sweeping views of Britain’s rugged coastlines and rolling hills, each moment is transformed into a visual feast.
A Long List of Gems
The Britannic Explorer is just the latest in Belmond’s stunning list of UK experiences. The British Pullman, a Belmond Train, offers incredible day trips to various destinations around the UK. The Royal Scotsman is the nation’s only luxury touring sleeper train through the Highlands.
The Cadogan, A Belmond Hotel, is a short 20-minute transfer from London Victoria Station, offering a seamless pre- or post-rail stay. For those traveling through the Cotswolds on the Lake District route, the Britannic Explorer offers an exclusive stop at the Michelin two-star manor house hotel and restaurant, Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons.
