A Sample Itinerary: Italy’s Island Charms
You can combine any of the above hotels, so the possibilities are pretty much endless. Every Poe Travel itinerary is completely customized, but here’s a sample itinerary to show you one possible way of making the most of this special offer to explore Italy’s islands.
Day 1
Sardinia
Fly into Sardinia’s regional airport after your long-haul flight from the States. On arrival, you’ll be privately transferred to Romazzino, A Belmond Hotel, to settle in and acclimate to your new surroundings.
Romazzino is the newest hotel in Belmond’s stunning portfolio. This Sardinian beachfront paradise immerses you in a world of retro-glamor. Located in Costa Smeralda, this Sardinian icon was founded by the Aga Khan IV in 1965 and presides over a private sandy beach. With one seawater swimming pool and one freshwater swimming pool to complement the private beach, your options for relaxation are plenty.
We recommend staying at least three nights at Romazzino—and stay even longer if you have the time!
Stay: Romazzino, A Belmond Hotel
Day 2
Sardinia
Explore Sardinia with a private local guide today, or simply relax at your hotel. If you choose to sightsee with a guide, we can tailor your day based on your personal interests. Your guide will be able to help you find all of Sardinia’s most beautiful spots; surprise, surprise: there are TONS!
Stay: Romazzino, A Belmond Hotel
Day 3
Sardinia
Enjoy one last day to take in stunning Sardinia, either by exploring off-property or taking advantage of all there is to enjoy at your hotel.
Stay: Romazzino, A Belmond Hotel
Day 4
Sicily
Fly from Sardinia to Sicily today. Belmond has two hotels in Taormina. You can either pick one and stay for the duration (we recommend at least four nights!), or you could split your stay between the two to experience the best of both worlds.
Grand Hotel Timeo is set in the very heart of Taormina and serves up views that have enchanted guests for over a century. Adjacent to the Greek Theater, you can spot Mount Etna and Naxos Bay from here. The hotel served as a haven to visionaries and artists since the mid-1800s, inspiring the likes of Otto Geleng and DH Lawrence. Find out why for yourself as you explore this verdant hideaway with Michelin-starred dining.
In nearby Taormina Mare, the Villa Sant’Andrea beach residence will make you feel as though you’re being reunited with old friends. This seafront hotel, with its balconies of geraniums and subtropical gardens, feels like a private home. Relax in the heated infinity pool or a stylish beach cabana, visit the wellness center, or dine in style at the acclaimed restaurant.
Stay: Grand Hotel Timeo or Villa Sant’Andrea, A Belmond Hotel
Days 5-7
Sicily
Enjoy these days exploring Sicily or relaxing at your hotel of choice. We can arrange any local sightseeing you might want to try out, from visiting archaeological wonders like the Greek Theatre or the Valley of the Temples to hiking up the slopes of volcanic Mount Etna. Visit the town of Palermo, take a private cooking class, or taste how the local wines are affected by the volcanic soil surrounding Mount Etna.
Stay: Grand Hotel Timeo or Villa Sant’Andrea, A Belmond Hotel
Day 8
Return Home
You’ll depart Sicily today for your onward travels or to begin your journey back to the good old USA after your Grand Italian Tour.
