Aqua Expeditions specializes in intimate small-ship expedition experiences, so it’s no surprise that they are the ones bringing the first true superyacht to the Galapagos Islands. Their brand-new ship, Aqua Mare, is all set to head out on her maiden voyage in June 2022, and Aqua have an exciting array of expeditions planned on this new yacht through 2024.
Aqua Mare has been designed to host a maximum of 16 guests. Solo travelers, couples, and small families can choose single cabins or multiples to suit your needs. Larger groups or multigenerational families will want to consider hiring Aqua Mare on an exclusive-use basis, a truly incredible way for your group of friends, family members, or colleagues to explore a lifechanging region like the Galapagos.
A Closer Look at Aqua Mare
The ship’s expansive size means that you’ll enjoy 30 percent more indoor volume than you would on most yachts this size, making this the perfect respite after active days exploring the remote wildlife and dynamic nature of the archipelago.
The ship was originally built in 1998 and refurbished in 2021, when a further two staterooms were added. Custom interiors and timeless exterior styling create a classic, luxurious feel. Seven Zuretti-designed suites, including the largest Owner’s Suite in the Galapagos, are complemented by the most personalized service. This is enabled by the impressive 1:1 staff to guest ratio and the two naturalist guides who will accompany you for the duration of your voyage.
Outside of the staterooms, you will find a sundeck with panoramic views for al fresco dining, outdoor seating and lounge areas, barbecue, six-person Jacuzzi, and outdoor workout zone. On the upper deck, explore the bridge, main panoramic lounge, library, lobby bar and outdoor deck. The yacht’s indoor dining room, along with another outdoor dining and lounge area, are located on the main deck. Finally, the lower deck includes a swim platform, indoor panoramic beach club, and a movie room!
Aqua Mare’s chef, Pedro Miguel Schiaffin, was known for his two cutting-edge restaurants in Lima before the pandemic. Now he’s taking his culinary prowess to sea, bringing his passion for the exotic produce of the Amazon to the table with traditional techniques. The result is a world-class menu inspired by the dramatic landscapes and flavors of the South American Pacific coast as well as the Peruvian Nikkei style. Yum!
Aqua Mare is equipped with Koop Nautic Sea Rocq Underway stabilizers, which allow for comfort at rest or while sailing at a maximum speed of 17 knots, faster than anyone else in the archipelago. This speedy (yet smooth!) sailing means that you’ll be able to experience the entirety of the wild and magnificent archipelago at its most varied and intimate.
When to Sail
Aqua Mare is fully booked for her inaugural sailing in June, but there is still limited availability in July, should you wish to sneak away as soon as possible. Otherwise, there is still a bit of space available on various sailings until November 2022. If you’re looking ahead to the future, bookings for 2023 and 2024 are already available.
