Chilling Out—and Tuning in—at The Chilko Experience Wilderness Resort
See bears, mountains, and glaciers. Transverse trails by foot, ATV, or horseback. Fish pristine lakes and rivers. Watch your kids flourish as they encounter a nature few know exists. This is The Chilko Experience.
We’re big fans of The Chilko Experience Wilderness Resort in British Columbia—and so are our clients. There you can immerse yourself in the stunning Chilcotin region and take part in any number of outdoor activities. Or maybe you’d prefer to hang out in your spacious cabin, set amongst tall pines near the edge Tatla Lake. At night, you can take in the incredible starry skies and crisp night air from the privacy of your own deck, or from around a crackling firepit, with s’mores for children and nightcaps for adults (or s’mores and nightcaps for adults).
Wildlife enthusiasts can expect to see foxes, eagles, and moose as well as rainbow trout and sockeye salmon in the lake. Due to the high density of fish, there’s an impressive migration of grizzly bears in the autumn months as they come to feed, and the hotel runs several bear watching trips during the season. Take one of the photography tours or lake cruises if you prefer a relaxed pace, or alternatively, white water raft and take a helicopter tour for a get a bird’s eye view.
For those looking for a lot of action, The Chilko Experience offers a variety of hands-on activities such as hiking, riding, axe-throwing, and fishing.
However you choose to spend your time, you’re sure to connect with nature in a meaningful, memorable way.
A bit of background: Chilko is the realization of one man’s dream—a private seven-home, $10M luxury estate built in the pristine British Columbia wilderness for the use of friends and family. It is the nicest wilderness facility of its kind in North America because of what it’s not—a lodge. It stands apart because of its world-class architecture and its prime location on a pristine wilderness tract that, in ways, exceeds Alaska in its splendor (sorry, Alaska).
